Manjimup Ham Feast Report

Hi to all,

Many thanks to everyone who came along to the 2016 Manjimup Ham Feast at the Quinninup Tavern on Tuesday.

There was a great turnout for the day with 45 attendees enjoying the day and it was fantastic to see so many people joining us.  Amateurs and partners came from Albany, Katanning, Mandurah, Perth and all destinations in between – plus Manjimup (Thanks to Max for pointing this out! 🙂

The day was enjoyed by everyone, with plenty of social and technical conversations taking place, theAllStar ‘Show and Tell’ demonstration in the corner by Mal VK6MT, helped along by a good variety of food and refreshments.

The day went very quickly and before I knew it, the time had gone past 4.00pm.

First ticket drawn in the Ham Feast raffle went to Bevan VK6BL, who demanded a redraw take place and the dual band handheld prize went to Lee VK6TY, continuing his lucky streak after also winning a raffle prize at the Katanning Ham Feast back in January 2016.  Second prize was another dual band handheld and won by Stuart VK6BG. Third prize was a Jaycar gift voucher won by Lance VK6LR (another frequent raffle winner) and fourth prize was a Bunnings gift voucher won by Mal VK6MT.

A big thank you as well to Nigel VK6NI who brought along some surplus electronic equipment donated to SEG by a Denmark resident.  Nigel ran an impromptu fundraising auction for this equipment that attracted some very keen bidding.  I reckon we might see a cameo role for Nigel in the next series of Storage Wars on TV with his auction skills.

Chris VK6JI has uploaded his photos from the day to his website (http://www.cwjames.info/manhamfeast/index.htm). If anybody else has some photos they would like to share, please feel free to post them to the SEG Mailing List or I can upload to the SEG website.

Thanks once again to all who made it a great day and you all enjoyed the day as much as I did.  Look forward to seeing everyone again at Katanning in 2017. (Late January)

2016 Manjimup Ham Feast

The time of year for the Manjimup Hamfeast has come around and will be held on Tuesday 27 September 2016.

Start time is 12.00pm.

For those who haven’t been before, the Manjimup Hamfeast is similar to the Katanning Hamfeast and is a lunch held at the friendly Quinninup Tavern, a small former mill town approximately 30kms south of Manjimup.

The food is great, drinks are cold and the company is excellent!  YL’s, XYL’s & partners are also very welcome.

For those coming from Albany, Mt Barker, Katanning, Perth or most other places, Manjimup/Quinninup can be reached in 2-3 hours travel time.  For those that wish to stay a bit longer, there is a caravan park at Quinninup or accommodation can also be found in nearby Manjimup, Pemberton and Northcliffe.

It is preferred if you can pre-order your choices to help the chef to have sufficient supplies on hand and prepare & deliver the meals in a timely manner. Meals can be selected on the day, but there are no guarantees! 🙂  I can recommend the Battered Mushrooms & Fried Camembert for entrees.

If those attending can e-mail me with their meal choices and to confirm their attendance, so I can prepare a spreadsheet for the chef and our name badge producer.

Please have your orders back to me by 8.00am, Monday 19 September 2016 at the latest.

Thanks all and look forward to hearing from you soon and seeing you at Quinninup on 27 September 2016.

Katanning Hamfeast Report

Many thanks to everyone who came along to the Katanning Ham Feast yesterday – It was great to see everyone and catch up for a chat and some lunch.

I think I counted around 35 guests for lunch at the Royal Exchange Hotel for the 7th Katanning Ham Feast.

First prize in the raffle (LED magnifying desk lamp) was won by VK6TY Lee.  Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and proceeds from the raffle go to helping Southern Electronics Group.

The Treasurer Bevan VK6BL also advises that many members also renewed their membership and we also signed up some new members yesterday.  Thank you to those who renewed their membership and welcome to the new SEG members.

Thanks to Chris VK6JI who has uploaded his photos from the day to his website.  Checkout http://www.cwjames.info/kathamfeast/

The next Ham Feast is planned for Manjimup in mid-2016 (exact date is to be advised) and hoping you can all make it along.

Thanks again all for making it a great day.

Katanning Hamfeast – 28 January 2015

January 10th, 2015 by vk6ld

Katanning Hamfeast Report

The Katanning Ham Feast was held on Wednesday 28 January 2015 at Oscar’s Café in Katanning.

I think I counted 23 or 24 sitting down for lunch, with people travelling in from Manjimup, Boyup Brook, Busselton, Yallingup, Bunbury, Denmark, Albany, Mt Barker, Broomehill, Mandurah and Perth for the day to join fellow hams in Katanning.

The meals were tasty & enjoyable and some even dined on dessert afterwards. The conversation was lively and topped off with refreshing drinks (as it was warm outside :).

A great time was had by all, so a big thank you to everyone who travelled to Katanning as you all made the day fantastic.

Thanks also to the staff at Oscar’s Café at the Royal Exchange Hotel for looking after everyone and keeping us fed & watered.

If you enjoyed the day or couldn’t make it this time, the next Ham Feast will be held in Manjimup around July 2015. (Exact date TBA). I might also try and arrange something in Albany or Denmark in between.

I have attached the group photo taken by Duncan VK6GHZ. Thanks to Duncan!

Duncan has also sent me a high res photo (approx 10MB size) if you would like a copy of that sent to you, please let me know and I will e-mail it across.

Thanks once again everyone and look forward to seeing you at the Manjimup Ham Feast!

Manjimup Ham Feast – 21 July 2014

July 1st, 2014 by vk6ld

food

I’m now able to confirm the details for the Manjimup Ham Feast.

(Although it is being held at the Quinninup Tavern, I have kept the name as the Manjimup Ham Feast to avoid confusion with the town Quindalup over near Busselton)

Date is Monday the 21st July 2014.

Start time is 12:00pm (until the last person leaves)

YL’s, XYL’s & partners are also very welcome. Carpooling is also recommended.  Contact Rob VK6LD to enquire if anyone is coming from your area.

Venue is the Quinninup Tavern, Wheatley Coast Road in the Quinninup town site. (On the section between Muir Highway and South Western Highway)

For those coming via South Western Highway, Quinninup is about 2kms in from the turn off and the tavern is on your left. For those coming via Muirs Highway, Quinninup is about 12kms in from the turn off and the tavern is on your right.

Google Maps Link:  http://goo.gl/maps/IDWcp   (The tavern is Lot 21)

The owner of the Quinninup tavern would appreciate guests pre-ordering their meals where possible.

This will give the owner a chance to ensure she has the required stock & ingredients on hand so you don’t miss out on your favourite choices and also do some preparation in the kitchen so everyone doesn’t have to wait too long for meals to be served.

Quinninup Tavern Menu 1

Quinninup Tavern Menu 2

One is the bar & kids menu, the other is the restaurant menu.  Both menus are available on the Ham Feast day.

Don’t all go drooling, but I can recommend the Camembert and the Mushrooms for entrée and any of the burgers for a main meal.

I will collate the pre-orders and send them back to the tavern about a week before the event, so if you can email them to me by Monday 14 July 2014 please.

I spoke with Max VK6FN and he advises he has ordered good weather for the day.

It looks to be shaping up as a great day, so mark the date down in your diary and start planning your travel arrangements.

For those who have already indicated they are coming I have you on the list already. If your situation changes, please let me know ASAP.

For those yet to decide, I will still be collating numbers for the next 2 weeks, but the sooner you can confirm the better please.

Thanks all and look forward to seeing you there!
